I served as secretary of the
National Youth Wing of Unity Party during the 1997 election. No
need for early decision now. Samuel E. Greaves04/18/2007
Thanks for this website for the
exchange of views on matters of importance. I think that the
decision to seek re-election in 2012 by President Sirleaf as
petition by Grand Gedeans is a constitutional right as enshrined
in the constitution. Why it might be yet too early to decide on
a second term, it is the right of President take what ever
decision to the poll in 2012 and let the Liberian people decide.
There are many pertinent issues that needs to be dealt with at
present that must be focus on. Let not waste our energy and time
on trivial issues that are of no significance for now and keep
our eyes on the ball. I think whatever decision is made in 2012
by President Sirleaf will be left with the Liberian people at
the poll come then. It will be a gross disregard and politically
wrong to not to respect the will of the people if so is the case
in 2012. I think the future will be determine by the present. If
President Sirleaf fulfill those dreams of the Liberian people,
reconstructing the country, providing electricity, health care,
education, housing, fighting corruption, a second term is
eminent. This is how politics and democracy works the world
over. So the, time will tell. Emmanuel O. Davies<emmandavies13@yahoo.com>

Liberians need to stop this
nonesense. This is definitely a reminder of how Tubman was able
to spend over over 27 of unbroken years in office and hardly did
nothing for the country.Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is a very
compotent and capacable leader, who is widely respected the
world all over. I am very sure she is capacable of making a
sound decision of a second term. Let''s focus on something
better like revisiting our constitution for amendments on
reducing the number of years from six years to having elections
every four years for members of the National Legislature. Six
years is just too long for one effectively others. Thanks

stealing our money, you could not even have been a janitor in

joke... Who is brave amongst you to sponsor a bill to reduce
your term??? So-so gravy seekers... and what happen to people
like Chief Rogue Cyril Allen and stolen money big house Lewis
Browne?? How about Urey who thought Liberia was his pa farm??
Wlue the Liberator who stole all our money in one day?? All of

I believe President
Sirleaf has a vision for Liberia that cannot be realised in 6
years. We need her for an additional term and many more. If she
can do us the honor of running one more time it will be very
good for Liberia. If she leaves in 5 years I fear we''ll find
ourselves back to where we''ve always been: corruption, no love
for the country or straightening up the country; etc. 04/19/2007
As long as the nation
needs her,she should remain in office. Liberian men are well
known to be over ambitious, engage in arguments and debates
without having sufficient data or information and as such lack
the necessary preperation for what they engage in for dabate or
argument. They all think too much of themselves and want to be
President. I myself am a Liberian Male; but truely educated not
to think like all others.04/19/2007
LET THE PEOPLE OF LIBERIA
KEEP QUIET FOR ANY SCCOND FOR ANYTHING CONCERNING SSECOND TERM
TO THE PRESIDENT. FOR GOD SAKE ,IT IS VERY EARLY TO EVEN THINK
ABOUT THAT. IF ANYONE WANTS TO HELP THE PRESIDENT, HE OR SHE
SHOULD DO SO BY ASSISTING TO REDUCE CORRUPTION AND PARTICIPATE
IN ANY AND ALL POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. A CALL FOR SECOND
TEM MIGHT EVEN MAKE THE PRESIDENT TO LOOSE FOCUS.STOP CREATING
DICTATORS.PEOPLE OF GRAND GEDEH THIS IS NOT WHAT WE WANT TO HEAR
FROM YOU. LET DEMONCRACY TAKE ITS COURSE.04/19/2007
WE MUST LEARN TO KEEP OUR
PROMISES!! PEOPLE MUST ALLOE THIS WOMAN TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN
EVERY RESPECT. WHEN SHE KEEPS HER PROMISE, MAYBE THOSE COMING
AFTER HER WILL HOPEFULLY FOLLOW HER EXAMPLE.04/19/2007
I think it is too early but if the president health allows her, I think
she should reconsider when the time is right. At this time, I
just don’t see a present Liberian politician that can sincerely
and ably fill the role of Ms. Johnson-Sirleaf. I say this
because I think it will take some time before the idea of
accountability, results and integrity that Ms. Johnson-Sirleaf
have introduce into Liberian politics permeate among the
population and the rest of the politicians who seek position of
power. We don’t need to look far, just take Bryant’s
administration and give it a look. Bryant came to power
promising new way/day of business, but he and his administration
ended as one of the most corrupt, disorganize, self-centered
government in our history. All they were concerned about was
stealing from the nation coffers, and denying the rest of us the
needed action/contribution that could move the country forward.

She needs to tell the
petitioners that they are not acting in the best interest of her
and the country. At the end of her first term she will be 73.
With additional 6 years she will be 79. She will be too old to
function cognitively. Secondly, they want her to violate the vow
she made to the Liberian people that she will serve only one
term. Ellen has to be careful with the traditional cheering
squads of Liberia. They will be the same to chant tomorrow,
Ellen Johnson pack your loads.....04/19/2007
It''s way too early. She has just started. Maybe after four years, we
should know by then where we are heading to. But for now, let us
keep praying. YJ04/20/2007

Its about time we stop
this petition nonesense, rather we should thinking about enacting
laws that will gurantee the sustainability of our democracy
irrespective of who the leaders are. The present term of office
for the presidency and the legislature is too long, we should
have a referendum on this issue. i think the president term of
office should be four years while that of the house of
representatives and the senate should be two and six years
respectively. Madam president is doing a great job and I am sure
she will want to be remembered by Liberians and the
international community as the the leader who laid the path for
a sustainable democracy. Once again we should eleminate this
idea of pettioning leaders to run for office as in the past most
of this so called petitions were just the work of very few
people who had their own personal agenda which had nothing to do
with the people they claim to represent. Thanks fo the space.
William. Atlanta, GA. USA.04/21/2007
A Second Term Proposal coming
out of the South Eastern Region is not sincere but rather a
deception. I am of the conviction that the President is very
cognizant relative to the behaviours of our politicians. Those
making the proposals themselves are not servants of the
state. Finally, the world is watching the President keenly. She
promised and it is incumbent upon her to fulfill. She should not
just only say no, but remind them of their deception. This view
does not represent the view of the cross section of Grand Gedeh.
Know, that is a common style of our Politicians to use our
people in fulfilling their selfish political quest. Hon. Isaac
Nyenabo, former Comptoller General Republic of Liberia is trying
to repay the President for not seeking his prosecution in
connection with corruption at the Finance Ministry. In closing,
Nyenabo should understand that with time he shall answer to the
call of justice. Abraham Wesseh 04/21/2007
You people should stop making a
mockery of democracy in Africa, okay.04/21/2007
I hate petitions; but
it''s the right of the people to petition their government, for
better or for worse. I think it''s too early to ask the Oldma to
run again. Give it another two years, my people. Let''s see
what''s in the pipeline for the people of Liberia.04/21/2007
she is old to not run for
election 201204/22/2007
Have we forgotten, the
Cries, " Tubman is our man." "country woman born president,
congo woman born rouge." You kill my ma, you kill my pa I will
vote for you." "give us Barrabas, crucify Him." "down with Cesar
horay to Brutus." "Saul killed his thousands, but David his then
thousands." These have all been cries of the crowd at one time
of the other in history. I think our President should seek the
Almighty God for guidance, because He is the only one who makes
the ultimate decisions. It is good that she has the approval of
the people of Grand Gedeh for now, but let''s not lose site of
how quickly public sentiments can change. 04/22/2007
Well, Ellen cannot speak
fairly to the possibility for second because it is too early.
She still struggling as to how she can put her confident
officials in proper position to function mre efficiently and
accurately. With how things are going in some ministries so
poorly, Ellen is cannot be absolute of being consistent with her
domestic policy since she finds it a bit difficult to fortify
these major ministries and agencies. Who knows whether Ellen
slip and detray her support by not taking on those ineffective
and poorly functioning ministers who indirectly rebuke her
well-balanced political aganda. It''s too far soon. 04/22/2007
The people have asked so
the leader must listen. R. Johnson04/22/2007

she her self is a
dictator. She has called everyone else out on their faults or
wrong do-ings but she doesnt see her own. She should just stick
to her word and not seek a second term04/23/2007
It is the Gedeans own way
of support. I think the President should only lead for one term
and leave to give other ways. The record must be set like former
President of South Africa Nelson Mandela. If we all must
consistent take review of what she told us during the election
process, "I am only going to rule for one term to set the
country straight and leave" therefore let her not allow the
ambition for power drag her in situation that will become
unsuitable for striving democracy. 04/23/2007
I''m sorry but I''m not sure if the constitutions allows a 2nd term. If it
does, too early to decide. If not, NO.04/23/2007
President Johnson-Sirleaf has done and is still doing fantastically. I
think after this term she should retire and offer her advice and
support to the people of Liberia when needed.04/24/2007
Stop the bickering. This
is a democracy. Let the Liberian people make the choice at the
polls at the end of her first term; she is an intelligent person
who has the right to change her mind if she finds it necessary
to do so. What are we afraid of? Go to the polls.
Thanks.04/24/2007
I think it is still too
soon, but if she got the strenght and ability to carry-on i think
it''s in the best intrest of the nation to stay on.04/24/2007
It will be good for her
to keep her word. This will keep the path of demoncratization
alive in our country04/24/2007
SO BE IT04/24/2007
I am a Grand Gedean, but
I just don''t want Ellen to listen to those people. Let them go
to school and get to know what it means to be EDUCATE. These
people were beating people 2005 if you said Ellen in Zwedru. Is
it now that they want her to run 2012 so they can vote her in
office? We Liberian are moving forward and not backward. Ellen
is a woman of her words. They should find somthing better to
talk. Phe-Phe Tarlue UN-DR-Congo 04/24/2007
While choosing our leader
is the Peoples'' perogative, I believe that recommending a
successor who shares the development aspirations and dreams of
Mrs. Sirleaf for the Liberian people will be in our (Liberians)
best interest. A leader who has the ability and flexibility of
governance, rigidity and compromise.04/24/2007
It is their right and
opinion to say that but they can not decide for all of the
Liberians in general.04/24/2007
It is too early to
decide,it also depens on what infrastructures she wants to put
in place before she leaves the seat.04/24/2007
President Sirleaf has
more time to personally judge herself- (successes,
failures, achievements and the state of the economy)as a
determinant to her re-election. It is extremely immature to give
any consideration to that thought. Grand Gedeans are trodding on
the usual Liberian decietful political path and I would have
hoped that the President''s immediate response would have been a
question: What are my accomplishments that are being used as a
motivating factors for your request? I will trust that the
President is too wise to allow that thought a free passage
though her ears. This reminds me of what former Montserrado
senator, Grace Minor once told Taylor when Liberia was
undergoing one of the world''s most chaotic economic system
under Taylor''s rule that Taylor was the most visionary leader
in Africa and Taylor was a fool to have enjoyed that deciet.
Ellen open your eyes and observe for yourself. I am your huge
supporter as long as you continue to steer the state in the
right direction for the masses. J. Walter Urey Minnesota

The Unity Party needs to
start her grooming her sucessor now or make known her intention.
Secondly, at 73 she may not be not physically fit to deal with
the stress of the duties of the Executive considering the
challenges she has had to face the past two decades.04/25/2007
Sir, the Grand Gedeans
want to test her they are not saying it from a good feelings
because it too early for that.I would advise she low right now
to any equest.04/25/2007
The events in Africa and
Liberia in particular are still very volatile and unpredictable.
President Sirleaf while she has made a commendable start as
President of a country that barely existed a few years ago still
has many "kooks" and cannibals that she has to be wary of. I
think she should tell her supporters that it is still too early
for her to make a decision and carefully watch the crooks who
are going to come out of the woodworks. Ambassador Lafayette
Diggs Charlotte, North Carolina 04/25/2007
I think the major concern
for every liberian as we speak should be the future of democracy
in Liberia. President Sirleaf should do what so ever it wil take
to make the next election free and clear and not make mockery of
that process. Hence, a person of her status, I believe she will
make the right call in the interest of the country and not
listen to anyone or group of people that will begin to
ill-advise her at this earlt stage.04/25/2007
She shouldn''t run again.
She is not a president material.not because she''s a lady,but I
feel she hasn''t done anything constructive. All Mrs. sirleaf
does is to travel using up the liberian people momey.04/25/2007
Ellen is a must have

There is no
constitutional binding to stop Madam Sirleaf for going into
second term. Although she has personal responsibility and
constitution responsibility;if her performance is impressive,
the people of Liberia can stand to request her to continue her
leadership by seeking second term. However, what would be a
national and political tragedy is for anybody to go against the
constituion that requires for only two terms. Ellen should do
her do as long it is not unconstituional. James C. Blyee,Jr.04/29/2007
I am in agreement with
the Sirleaf-second-term proposal. She will be able to completely
re-order a nation with a damaged value system and to usher in a

Once again! Our minds are
still in the 1960''s. Grand Gedeans or who ever else should be
asking offering suggestions to bring electricity and economic
growth to their county. Then, it doesn''t matter who''s at the
top, they will be able to sustain themselves. There are 3
branches of government, none higher than the other. If we want
to act like a feudalistic society with serfs and nobles and
lords then we should stop pretending that we are a democracy and
call it like it is.04/30/2007

Whatever the rationale
behind an alleged plea from Grand Gedeans; I think it is wrong
for any group of people to make a blind plea after a year of a
six years presidency. The people of Grand Gedeh know this fact
very well. The few unity party partisans that made such a
plea, should not be miscontrued as the collective view of the
people of Grand Gedeh.05/02/2007
I believe Predident
Sirleaf is doing a great job and should be given another
opportunity to complete what she has started during another term
in office.05/02/2007
I think you need to end
this poll now. This has been on your site too long. Let''s talk
about something else.05/02/2007
For those of you who are
saying Ellen should contest the presidency for two, three and
must have president, thereby reneging on her previous premise,
it would be much easier to suggest that she becomes president
for life. "Long live the queen." Please don''t fall short to
compel us to bow down to your statute or nobility when we hear
the trumpet sound. Before we speak to her, we must first say
your majestic in the highest. Some of you guys are political
ventriliquists who don''t understand the true nature of this
president and her government. This administration inability in
fulfilling its duty such as providing basic social services for
its people, violating citizens civil liberty and constitution,
being impervious and or embellishing the reality on the groung
prove that her government lacks the capacity to serve as a
custodian. Therefore, if she successfully completes her term,
let Ellen do us a favor by respecting her own vow.I will
strongly suggest that she packs her begs and go to Alanta, GA
where she usuall spends time with her grandchildren and leaving
the Country business undone. From: Clay Yarvogar Phila,
Pa05/02/2007
It doesn''t matter if she
runs two, three, or infinity. She will still spend the rest of
her live in Bella Yala jail cell in Lofa county once she''s
alive. By the way, she has foreseen it happening; therefore she
has decided to make the prison facility a school house. Whatever
the case is, a prison facility will be provided for all those
that bear greater responsibility of our suffering including the
convict turned president. Its just a matter of time. But she will
go to jail in Liberia not the Hague.05/03/2007
I do believe that we Liberians should learn to stick to statements made
whether publicly or incamera. We have all heard her say that she
will not run come 2012. Let us not create an imperial
presidency. There are more Liberians available who can pick up
the mantle from where she will stop. It is the Liberian people
who will decide their own destiny come 2012. However, we must
commend her for the work done so far and pray that she continues
woth more vigor until 2012 ( her final year).05/03/2007
Ellen''s performance in
just one has demonstrated her desire and promise to rebuild
Liberia. She has laid the foundation on which to begin actual
reconstruction, rehabilitation, and reconciliation. Unlike her
predecessor, who was in Gbarnga for rock of ages but did
notthing to benefit that part of the country. The predecessor
was at the helm of government for six years but achieved nothing
and delivered just empty promises. Having laid the foundation,
it is encumbent on Ellen to finish the job that she has just
begun by running in 2012. We are not judge her age, it is the
Creator who will provide the strength, wisdom, and knowledge to
perform her awesome responsibilities. Jerome S. Teah05/04/2007
the time will come for
her to decide when to run or not to run for second
term.05/04/2007
Mrs. Sirleaf as a citizen
of Liberia has the right to decide what she wants to do for
Liberia after her term ends. She shouldn''t run if the
constitution prohibits that. She is making you men look stupid
by not commenting on this poll.05/05/2007
The president should not
accept andy request nor pressure from any group to run for a
second term. She said that she will be Liberia''s Nelson
Mandela, to step down after her six year term and maintain her
respect in the world. She has achieved the maximum that history
can judge or reward her for. It''s left with her successor to
work on the foundation she''s laying and carry the country
forward. 05/05/2007
Actually, it is too soon
to decide. The decision for a second term will depend on how the
first term goes. If President Sirleaf succeeds in her endeavor
to reconstruct the country, create a conducive investment
climate, create job opportunities, establish international
credibility and all of the good things that make Liberia and
Liberians need, I see no reason why a second term should be
question. It is constitutional however and a personal decision.
So time will tell. Emmanuel O. Davies <emmandavies13@yahoo.com>

The president cannot even
stand on her leg at this time. No more six years.05/06/2007
I BELIEVE THAT AT THE
APPROPRIAT SHE WILL DECIDED AS TO WETHER SHE WANT TO GO FOR HER
SECOND TURN. FROM HER PERFORMENT ,I THINK THE LIBERIA PEOPLE
WILL DECIDED.BUT SHE NEED MORE TIME.I KNOW SHE IS DOING WELL AND
SHE NEED TO CONTUNING TO DO HER JOB WITH OUT HINDER.05/06/2007
President Ellen
Johnson-Sirleaf has not even been in office half of her 6-year
term yet and already Liberians are asking her to run for another
term? What could be the logical measurement of Ellen''s success
as a basis for this? Ellen is doing fine alright, but its too
early to wish her 12 years in power. Not just yet. This
political shenanigan is a vice of Liberian political culture
wish must be debunked anytime it shows its ugly head again in
our body politik. Down with sycophancy! Down with political
cronism! Hilary Lorpudolo05/06/2007
Let her wait t''ll the
4th year but i personally think she should go again if she''s
got the strenght.05/06/2007
I agree with the
petitioners. The reform she has INITIATED will be in full swing
during her second term and she must then add the referendum need
to reduce election term to 4 years for both the Presidency and
the Legislaure. In this way politicians who do not uphold ther
promise will get a quick pay form the electorates. The shield
will have been broken and it will take a character like Sirleaf
to prioritize such a reform agenda Albert Dahn05/07/2007
I BELIEVE NEXT TO
PRESIDENT TOLBERT, ELLEN IS THE NEXT BEST LIBERIA HAS EVER HAD.
I BELIEVE ELLEN HAS DONE WELL SO FAR BUT WITH HER AGE
CONSIDERED, I BELIEVE SHE SHOULD STEP ASIDE AND LET ANOTHER
COMPETENT PERSON STEP IN AND CONTINUE TO REBUILD LIBERIA. THE
REASON LIBERIA IS THE WAY IT IS TODAY IS BECAUSE, PRESIDENTS HAD
STAYED TOO LONG AND DID NOT DO ANYTHING. THIS IS IN REFEFENCE TO
THE LATE TUBMAN WHO WAS A CLOSE FAMILY MEMBER OF MINE. ELLEN IS
ALMOST IN HER SEVENTIES AND HER MIND IS NOT AS GOOD AS A YOUNG
PERSON. REMEMBER, WOMEN LOOSE THEIR SENSE OF THOUGHT EARLIERR
THAN MEN.05/07/2007
The lady should
gracefully retire at the end of her term, bless some one to
carry the touch and allow Liberia to finally have a respected
living ex-president.05/07/2007
I am a Liberian residing
in the U.S. From what I have read and heard, the President is
trying her best to put Liberian on her good foot. What she has
started and not be completed in one term. I therefore do not
hesitate to appeal to the President to accept another term if
the Liberian people unanimously petition her. However, it too
soon. Let the Petitioners wait and see who far the President
will go with her promises. 05/08/2007
Ellen got rid of many
Liberian workers on grounds of limited government. She calls it
down and right sizing. However though, She filled those job
slots with her loyal partisans. She didn''t stop there; but
instead, she created more bureacracy contradicting her own
policy of smaller government. For example, she had made the GRC
prominant and gave it autonomous status. Dr. Sawyer is the head.
Remember, the GRC expired on MARCH 6, 2007
. WHY do we need the GRC in the
first place to begin with? We have ministries, functionaries and
ministers that are paid to do what Dr. Sawyer was given 25
million dollars for. Ellen has failed the people of Liberia. She
should say thanks, but no thanks. 05/08/2007
Ellen, you can fool some
people sometimes, but you can not fool all of the people all of
the time. There is no more excuse for you and your diciples.
Taylor is no more around for you to lie on him. Don''t be a
tickster. Don''t ask for 12 years. It will not happen.05/08/2007
For Ellen, Dr. Sawyer,
Brownie Samuka, H.B Fabulla, Taiwane Gonglo,Francis Johnson
Morris, Samuel Kofi Woods and ect, IN THE CAUSE OF THE PEOPLE
THE STRUGGLE HAS ENDED. They are in power right now.05/08/2007
What can Ellen and her
suppoters show as a success story or benchmark since she has
been in office for one and a half year? The simplest and truest
answer is nothing. There is no water and current in the country.
There is no infrastructural development, including but not
limited to road development ( Bassa highway, Jallah town,
Matidal estate, Sinkor roads, etc), job opportunities, hospital
to cure curable diseases, abject poverty is on the rise, the
country is even more divided, TRC is having a natural death, and
the list goes on with no end in sight. As a matter of fact right
now, there is a saying in Liberia, " THE COUNTRY IS RUNNING ON
ONE BRIDGE." Out of shame and ignorance, Ellen and her
supporters excuse to us is that the President didn''t break the
other bridge. Ellen needs to see reason why she can no longer
enjoy the confidence of the Liberian people. SHE LIES A WHOLE
LOT. Therefore, she must forget it.05/08/2007
sIX YEARS IS NOT ENOUGH
FOR ELLEN AND WE SHOULD REMEMBER THAT WE ARE JUST COME FROM A
BITTER WAR AND SHE IS DOING PRETTY GOOD. sHE ALSO HAS THE
CONFIDENCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY THEREFORE SHE SHOUD
ACCEPT THE PLEA AND RUN AGAIN, LIBERIA NEEDS HER IF ONLY WE CAN
REALIZE THIS AND GIVE HER A CHANCE. AFTER ALL, SHE HAS A LOT OF
WORK TO DO05/09/2007
